My name is Kizzy Petit, which in the Mandinka language means: “stillness; be at peace” to what my life story honours.
I was born and was raised in Maracaibo, Venezuela (which is a very hot city, but full of warm-hearted people).
I am a survivor of childhood abuse, domestic violence, narcissistic relationships and other unpleasant experiences that have encouraged me to do my best to turn the world into a much kinder, better place, starting from the way we raise our children.
I am a journalist with a PhD, and used to be a university professor in the field of Communication, back in my country.
I have always had a fascination for letters and a grand passion for writing. This excitement for putting into words my ideas has an additional value now: my daughter’s great imagination! She is the soul of this beautiful project! She opened a door for me to discover a world full of joy and wonders.
That’s how I created the series “Stories of an Unhurried Childhood”, which encourages us all to approach life with a slow-paced rhythm, from where we can appreciate and enjoy life while being conscious of all that surrounds us.
The books are aimed for children between 4 and 8 years old, although slightly younger or older ones can enjoy them as well.
My focus is to promote the slow-paced living approach, which is nowadays more and more important for children, who are being bombarded with technological devices and growing up disconnected from their own imagination and without the chances of free play.
My first book, “April’s Magical World and her joy for living slow” is a celebration for slow-paced living, and the story introduces us to a joyful childhood filled with play in nature, a free and wild imagination and interconnectedness to all living beings.
And my mission is to educate parents, teachers, counselors and other key people working with young children, about what are the things that make a child's heart sing with joy.
I am an animal lover! That's why I don't eat any sort of meat (yet, still in the process of getting rid of cheese!).
I prefer a good red wine, a cold beer or a minty mojito!
My favourite children authors are: Roald Dahl, C.S. Lewis, Astrid Lindgren, Shirley Hughes, Judith Kerr, Gerda Muller, Raymond Briggs, and Julia Donaldson.
I would love to travel the world with my daughter, specially to the Pacific Islands, which is a place we share a strong interest to meet.
Additionally, I also own and manage other exciting projects that you can visit here:

“April’s Magical World” story books started as a way to give life to all the creativity that came during the dinner table conversations with Abril, the 5-year-old girl who inspired these stories for writing fun rhyming stories about the wonders of a slow childhood, in tune with nature and imagination.
I enjoy the fact of feeling free to write about something that I feel it’s very important to preserve in the current world: childhood. That’s why I really appreciate not having the pressure of any external party taking decisions or making judgements about my work.
